a new set of irons for summer! which ones to buy!

i have finished school and am channeling all my efforts towards golf. i have got down to 5 handicap but am a bandit apparently as i dont play in regular competitions, but this year im going to enter every competition to get down as low as possible! when i go to juniors they all get annoyed cos of my handicap, and the fact i havent been to the comps. but i have had lots of family problems.....anyway.

ive finished school and am looking for an iron that will improve my game.

which ones do u reckon i shud get:

    rac tp taylormades - (sergios)

    mp 67

    nike cci forged

    nike tour blades

    cleveland cg 1 black pearls

    titleist z blend muscle backs

or shud i look at any others?

If you really want to improve your game, go have a custom set of clubs made.  I will never buy another set of clubs off the rack again.

The club heads are less important than the shafts.  Club heads come in 3 basic types.  Forged blades, Partial Cavity backs and Cavity backs.

Generally, the pros play with blades because they are slightly longer and you can work the ball (spin it) more with blades.  However, they are a lot less forgiving.  You have to hit the sweet spot for them to react well.

Cavity Backs are for the recreational golfer looking for a lot of forgiveness and less spin.  Off center hits will still fly straight and true.  Because of this they offer less spin.

As a 5 handicap looking to play a lot of golf, I'd be thinking about blades or partial cavity backs so you can work the ball when you want to.  But no matter what club head you choose, make sure you buy custom fit clubs.  They make a lot of difference.

We are lucky to be alive during Tiger's Reign. We are able to witness first hand an athlete who posses the skill, desire and focus required to dominate modern golf.

I think you should buy the Nike tour blades, the Callaway X forged or the RAC TP. I have demoed those clubs and the are the best feeling, workable, foregiving, and best priced. I am going to buy the Nikes and I am a 6 handicap. Demo those clubs and decide which ones to get.

I think you should wait until the new nike irons come out this november. The new VR series looks like it could be pretty great.

I have shown some interest also in the titleist z blend irons myself and that would be my choice or maybe the callaway prototypes.
