No.  I'm not a proponent of that; "If Tiger played then or Jack played now" stuff because, I can see a few things that would make a difference, both ways, but I'll talk about Tiger's disadvantages here:
1. When is it that The Greats rise to the highest degrees of their game. . .when they compete with the Greatest Competitors, true? I mean:
Jack had Lee et al,  All of your Great Spiritual leaders had their "Ceasers,"   Ali had Frazier-et al,   Zorro had that Police Sergent dude and Batman had The Riddler?  Poor Tiger- somebody will rise to the test, but soon...leave him, again

If it would be OK with his sponsors - Just for Huge Kicks, I'd love to see Tiger " Win One For The Gipper "  with Jack's old clubs !!  I'd love to see the ""Tradition"" haters'  be forced to plop their heads out of there, and get with the program- like the professionals that Jack and Tiger are

I would just like to see him play a round with them for fun.  Everyone is using the new technology, so it can't really be used that Eldrick isn't as good because his equipment is better.  The field each played against had consistent technology to each player.

Tiger said after Sunday's round that he was actually able to go with much less stick on most holes because the combination of his new balls and the excessive heat during the PGA caused the ball to fly much further than he expected. Hence 280 yard 2-irons off many tees. The coolest thing about Tiger is his willingness to accept change and adapt to whatever the situation calls for. Thinking about going back to older equipment for Tiger would be like thinking about going back to wooden shafts for Jack Nicklaus. Why would he have wanted to?

I like your to expansiveness (Johneli)- even though it's a "What if..."  that's the stuff that makes producers,  inventors and billionaires!  What if he won a tourny with them ! Think of the interest- (that would appease the old hateful people too),  revenues everywhere...there would be another club design!  blending the old with the new.....:)  just like I like most things: Vogue, yet ...playful- GQ' yet sporting-the way Tiger dresses btw

It may be interesting to watch, but the whole thing would be an aberation.  The characteristics of the ball,  the conditioning of the golf course - agronomy etc, , length of course, width of fairways  even the physical conditioning of the golfer, would all be different from Jack's playing days.   It wouldn't prove a thing...

That's exactly why it can't be used as an argument for who is better.  Everything has changed, not just the technology of the equipment.

What would be fun is seeing Tiger use the clubs, ball, gloves, grips, and everything else Jack used in the 60's, for just one round. See what he would shoot. Not to prove who's better but to show how technology has changed the game. Hit a drive with old clubs then new ones etc. I bet Jack would get a kick out of it.

Why do you think the swings have become so mechanical? Remember Jack used to lift his left heel off the ground. Now today that is a sin. He only played with a couple of wedges, not 4 or 5. You used to look up at the tee box from 250 yards away and you knew who was hitting because of their swing. Now you don't have a clue.

There may be some casulaties out there though with all that club head speed and steel spears.  Speaking of that have you seen that movie "300"  that is pretty tight if you got LCD, I dont but I can imagine...

Id love to see Jack and Tiger go at in on neutral ground like chess.  Who would castle first I wonder?  That may be the best we can hope for...

This is the gist of what I... ( didn't even) see - with this notion! Bravo Brian!  expand and play with it.  I wish I could re-start this thread, but with the illuminaries setting the tone - instead of people hashing it to death :) BTW: An (equivlent) chess match would be awesome:  They're both stratagists and  assasins. That could take a while, without a clock; nobody would ever retreat?
